MTS Trolley Crash on Barrio Logan Resulted in Fatality

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 4, 2023) – Friday evening, a trolley accident in the Barrio Logan neighborhood resulted in the death of Roy Mattingly.

The fatal collision happened around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Harbor Drive and Schley Street in San Diego.

According to the police, a man was struck by an eastbound Metropolitan Transit System tram while traveling south in a motorized wheelchair.

Unfortunately, the man was declared dead at the scene despite the life-saving efforts of the paramedics.

Later, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased victim as 67-year-old Roy Mattingly.

Officials described Mattingly as homeless, and he died before anyone could take him to a hospital.
