In a case that seems to have baffled police, a $100,000 reward was announced for instrumental help with solving the murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen.

The Palm Springs International Awards Gala and Film Festival stepped forward with the cash late Wednesday, announcing that it will go to a case-breaker who provides “information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of Ronni Chasen … “

Chasen was gunned down shortly before 13:30 a.m. Tuesday on Whittier Drive near Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Neighbors found her with five gunshot wounds to the chest inside her crashed Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe.

If cops have leads about the murder, they're not saying much. Chasen had spent Monday night working on an Oscar publicity campaign and attending a movie premier.

Says Palm Springs International Awards Gala and Film Festival chairman Harold Matzner, in a statement sent to the press, including the Weekly:

“Famed Hollywood publicist, Ronni Chasen, has been my partner in selecting all honorees and presenters for the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala for the past 10 years … A very good lady, a good friend…and a genius at her craft…Her death is very, very sad and mystifying … “

The festival asked anyone who has information about the homicide to call Beverly Hills police at 310-288-2656.
