Vehicle Accident near Esplanade Left Several Injured, One Arrested

CHICO, CA (April 5, 2022) – On Wednesday, authorities arrested 39-year-old Ronald Rodarte after a DUI crash on Highway 99, police said.

According to the police, a Hyundai Elantra driven by Rodarte came to a stop at the stop sign on northbound Esplanade.

Afterward 63-year-old Randall Pockrus, was driving a Ford Taurus south on Highway 99 at 60 mph while approaching Esplanade.

Furthermore, investigators said that Rodarte did not yield to the right-of-way to Pockrus and pulled out to make a left turn directly in front of him.

As a result, Pockrus’ vehicle broadsided Rodarte’s vehicle, where it hit a chain-link fence.

Meanwhile, Pockrus’ vehicle spun and ended up in the intersection, leaving him with moderate injuries.

His passenger, identified as 67-year-old Janica Clyde, sustained minor injuries as well.

In the end, the authorities arrested Rodarte for DUI.

Chico Officials continue to investigate the incident.
