39-Year-Old Male Bicyclist Dies in Crash near J Street in Oxnard

OXNARD, CA (March 9, 2021) – Thursday morning, 39-year-old Rojelio Minjarez, was killed in a bicycle crash on Channel Islands Boulevard.

The crash happened around 4:25 a.m., just west of J Street on February 25. Emergency crews arrived to the area shortly after receiving dispatch calls.

According to reports, Minjarez was riding his bike along the road when he was truck by a westbound 2018 transit van. The van was driven by a 51-year-old Oxnard man. He remained on scene and cooperated with the authorities.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and pronounced Minjarez dead on scene, due to the extent of injuries sustained. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force head injuries.

At this time, authorities are unsure as to whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. In addition, the surrounding area on Channel Islands Boulevard was closed during cleanup and preliminary duties. However, the roadway has since reopened.

An active investigation to determine further details remains ongoing. Once available, more information will be released.
