If you know your ascendant, read it too.

GENERAL FORECAST: Vivacious Venus leaves seductive Scorpio on Saturday for a quick sojourn, less than four weeks, in blunt, up-front Sagittarius. However, muscular Mars continues its biannual transit through the water sign it co-rules with Pluto until November 16. Plutonic power-games may become prominent while the “planet” receives the support of the sun as it crosses from Libra to Scorpio in the middle of the week.

ARIES (March 20–April 19)

Asking a headstrong Ram to be patient a while longer might be an exercise in futility; nevertheless, here goes. If you wait until Mercury, finally moving forward in your Libra partnership house, returns to the point at which it turned retrograde, the Messenger could provide the answer to a question that’s been bugging you since autumn began. Can you hold out until Halloween? That’s when you’re scheduled to receive the final word on an aspect of a close relationship that’s still clouded in confusion and contradictions.

TAURUS (April 20–May 20)

Now is not the time for “easy come, easy go.” Now is when you could find yourself at cross purposes simply because your appreciative and affectionate Venus ruler leaves your Scorpio marriage house for footloose, fancy-free Sagittarius just as the willful sun enters. Need I remind you that militant Mars is transiting Scorpio for the first time in two years and that His Lordship is usually on the offensive? Lucky for you and a significant other, Mars doesn’t dare put you in harm’s way until the Eve of the Election.

GEMINI (May 21–June 20)

No matter what else is going on in your life, do not make light of the pleasures and treasures affectionate Venus may ply you with during its trip through your Sagittarius house of allies. Since this transit lasts only until November 12, better stock up on the good times and warm feelings while they’re plentiful. Also be aware that your Mercury ruler has been criss-crossing your Libra house of romance and risk since the end of August, so matters you assumed were settled could pop up again before Mercury exits the Scales on Election Day.

CANCER (June 21–July 22)

Impulsive, accident-prone Mars’ current trip through your Scorpio house of entertainment, recreation and risky ventures can add an element of danger that a normally cautious Crab would avoid like the plague. However, if you find yourself accepting nutty challenges or exerting yourself beyond your customary limits, understand that for the first time in two years, energetic Mars is running the show, as well as your connection to show business. Its whirl through that part of your world ends in mid-November.

LEO (July 23–August 22)

Of course, attention must be paid. Right now, it’s the Lion’s lair and the pride that resides within that’s asking for more of your time. Might those creepy Halloween creatures and their delectable creations also be coming to call? Once solar Scorpio begins in earnest, you know from experience that your level of participation increases proportionately. Add the energy that physically fit, tool-friendly Mars contributes while it transits your zone of domesticity, and you may be living in a haunted house sooner than you think.

VIRGO (August 23–September 22)

Business as usual, even if it’s not what you expected. Changeable Uranus in your Pisces house of cohorts and competitors could throw you off your game while it opposes stand-pat Saturn in your sign. Although their polarity doesn’t reach perfection until Election Day, you may already be feeling the effects of their tug-of-war. Speaking of which, remember the 1960s? That’s the last time the planets governing innovation and tradition formed such a tight opposition. Their current face off continues until July 2010.

LIBRA (September 23–October 22)

One step forward, two steps back, a turnaround and now you’re playing catch-up. How long before you regain the position you were in when Mercury went retrograde in your sign on September 24? How about the night before Halloween, when no creature, no matter how fearless, should be stirring the wacky witches’ brew? After that, you’re in uncharted territory, free to improvise your way through the tricks and treats that follow. Now that your amenable Venus ruler is in jolly, joking Sagittarius, probably more dumb tricks than treats.

SCORPIO (October 23–November 21)

Your featured role as the belle of the ball, the cock of the walk may come to an end now that magnetic and/or adorable Venus has left your sign, leaving you to your own devices. While your macho Mars co-ruler is transiting Scorpio, its formidable presence could lead to rougher, tougher encounters because that’s the type of energy you’ll be projecting until mid-November. Two years ago, during Mars’ last visit, you were advised to have minor surgery, get your teeth fixed and work on building a better body. Ditto.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22–December 21)

This isn’t a prediction, just an observation. Of the four candidates, Joe Biden is the only one with Sagittarius rising, and therefore the only one with transiting Saturn ascending to his Virgo midheaven. Based on a study of presidential elections I read many years ago, the Saturn placement is often the key element in determining who makes it to the executive office. Even if you’re not in competition, an Archer can still be tested by traditions and regulations — or worse, Saturnian stagnation and disappointment.

CAPRICORN (December 22–January 20)

Read for Sagittarius. Since Saturn is your ruling planet — although it won’t get to your Libra midheaven until July 2010 — it is currently ascending on your solar chart. Thinking about taking over? Plan your campaign accordingly. While you’re at it, better read for Virgo, the sign Saturn is presently traveling through. That should alert you to what might be in store come Election Day when Saturn forms the first of five oppositions to erratic Uranus. But because the Virgin favors the Goat, the outcome shouldn’t be particularly painful.

AQUARIUS (January 21–February 18)

The changes may be coming too slowly to suit a politically savvy Aquarius. However, with the entrance of the sun into Scorpio, the sign governing your midheaven, coupled with input from impulsive Mars, your career could take off faster than expected. Furthermore, as idealistic Neptune in your sign comes out of retrograde motion on November 1, the reversal might provide the wake-up call you’ve been waiting for. Then there’s the do-or-die opposition between restrictive Saturn and your innovative Uranus ruler on Election Day. Wow!

PISCES (February 19–March 19)

The start of solar Scorpio on the 22nd signals an infusion of water sign energy that Fish respond well to. Especially now that seductive Venus has moved on to fiery Sag where the goddess may focus on burning bridges you’ve built in the community. Meanwhile tradition-bound Saturn in your Virgo partnership house challenges your rebellious spirit when it opposes Uranus in your sign on Election Day. Whether you’ll notice if your Neptune ruler is finally facing forward depends on the potency of the Halloween potions you drink.
