70-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in DUI Accident near Chapala Drive, One Arrested

LAS CRUCES, NM (July 24, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, Roberto M Granado was killed in a bicycle collision on Melendres Street. Authorities responded to the scene on July 23rd, at around 3:30 p.m., near Chapala Drive and Rendro Road after reports of a bike crash. According to reports, Granado was riding his bicycle along Melendres Street, against traffic when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the car was later identified as 39-year-old Vianey Marquez Adams. Furthermore, Adams had just struck multiple park cars before the fatal collision occurred. First responders arrived shortly after and pronounced 70-year-old Granado dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver was arrested for counts of DUI, vehicular homicide, and reckless driving. At this time, authorities are conducting an active investigation of the crash and will release additional information once available.
