Stanislaus County Hit-And-Run Driver Kills One in Modesto

MODESTO, CA (August 6, 2021) – Monday night on August 2, Robert Lopez was killed in a hit-and-run accident on River Road in Modesto.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 7:15 p.m., just east of Ryder Way. Officers arrived to the area shortly after.

Investigators say Robert Andres Lopez was riding a bicycle west in the 800 block of River Road. For reasons unknown, an SUV struck him while he was riding on the roadway.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived to the scene found the bicyclist lying on the ground. Due to the extent of his condition, Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition, the involved driver fled before the authorities arrived and left the pedestrian dead at the scene.

CHP described the suspect vehicle as an early 2000s Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further details is still underway.
