2 Bicyclists Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver near Etiwanda Avenue

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA (January 23, 2023) – Tuesday, Robert Gubany was arrested and two were killed in a bicycle crash on Foothill Boulevard.

Police responded to the scene around 8:20 p.m., near Etiwanda Avenue on January 17th.

Investigators say two cyclists were heading west when the driver of an eastbound sedan veered into the right-hand bicycle lane and hit them. Upon impact, the driver continued traveling without stopping or contacting authorities.

Emergency responders arrived and declared the female bicyclist dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the male bicyclist later died after being transferred to a nearby hospital.

Officials described the victims as a 41-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman from Upland. Although, officers withheld their names pending notification of next of kin.

Police eventually arrested the suspect, 23-year-old Robert Gubany and charged him with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol.
