Vehicle Crash on 22nd Street Left One Dead, One Injured

TUCSON, AZ (December 29, 2021) – A crash on 22nd Street claimed the life of Robert Charles Stewart and injured another one Thursday night.

Officers responded to the junction of 22nd Street and Tucson Boulevard around 4:20 p.m.

According to the police, Stewart was coming out of a private driveway onto the westbound lanes of 22nd Street, just east of Tucson Boulevard, when a Ford F-150 struck Stewart’s pickup as it proceeded westbound.

Furthermore, according to authorities, paramedics transported both drivers to Banner University Medical Center.

Shortly after arrival, the driver of the Ram died from life-threatening injuries. Authorities identified the victim as the 78-year-old, Robert Charles Stewart.

The collision forced both automobiles into traffic, where they collided with three more eastbound vehicles.

As per the department, the driver of the Ford, a man in his 50s, was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Roadway data and witness statements also show that the Ford was moving faster than the posted speed limit of 40 mph, which was a significant factor in the incident, according to detectives.

Due to the medical state of Ford’s driver, no charges or tickets have been issued at this time.

The crash is still under investigation.
