Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to the double murder scene around 9 a.m. April 30 in the 7000 block of Eton Avenue, near Sherman Way.

When the officers arrived, they were met by 63-year-old Arthur Reyes Morales, who immediately surrendered to the officers. The officers found Morales' 87 year-old Rita Morales and 85-year-old Manual Reyes, who was a double amputee, dead inside the home. It appeared that both victims were beaten to death with a hammer.

According to media reports, Morales was the primary caregiver to the victims, and the killing may have been linked to possible financial issues. Morales was arrested and booked at Van Nuys Jail for two counts of murder and is being held on a $2 million bail.

Anyone with information about the slayings should contact LAPD Topanga Division detectives at (818) 756-3363.
