From filmmaker Josh Swade (director of The Black Keys, Diplo, Major Lazer, Gary Clark Jr. shorts, as well as Rick Was Here, One and Done, among others) comes the documentary Ricky Powell: The Individualist. The documentary is set to premiere Saturday May 30th at 5:30pm ET at We Are One: A Global Film Festival.
The Individualist tells the story of legendary NYC street photographer Ricky Powell, who rose to worldwide fame documenting the downtown New York hip-hop, fashion, and art scenes of the 80’s and 90’s. The film features a plethora of icons from the entertainment and visual art worlds including music and street art legends like Chuck D, LL Cool J, Mike D, Vin Diesel, Laurence Fishburne, Debi Mazar, Natasha Lyonne, Mark Ronson, Fab Five Freddy, Zephyr and Futura.
We Are One: A Global Film Festival is a 10-day digital film festival airing exclusively on YouTube, for free, beginning May 29, produced and organized by Tribeca Enterprises. Programming will represent over 35 countries and include 23 narrative and 8 documentary features, 57 narrative and 15 documentary short films, 15 archived talks along with 4 festival exclusives and 5 VR programming pieces.
