32-Year-Old Man Arrested after Multi-Vehicle Crash near Forest Ranch Road

FOREST RANCH, CA (February 1, 2022) – Authorities arrested 38-year-old Richard Swerda after a hit-and-run crash on Highway 32.

The wrong-way collision occurred around 5:30 p.m., just west of Forest Ranch Road.

Per reports, Swerda was driving a Toyota east when he drifted into the westbound lanes of Highway 32. As a result, he drove directly into the path of a Ford carrying five people.

The Ford’s driver, 21-year-old George Jarrell from Oroville, turned left in attempt to avoid colliding. However, Swerda turned his vehicle to the right at the same time, crashing into the Ford head-on.

Upon impact, Swerda drove away from the scene but was later arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run.

Meanwhile, all six people involved in the crash had minor to major injuries, including Jarrell, the driver, 19-year-old Odell Riggins and 19-year-old Johnathan Monday.

Two minors who were with them, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were also hospitalized.

At this time, the crash is still under investigation. However, authorities believe that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol was a factor.
