65-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in Fatal Collision near Palm Canyon Drive

BORREGO SPRINGS, CA (March 31, 2022) – Friday afternoon, Richard Arthur Carpentier died in a motorcycle crash on Montezuma Valley Road.

The fatal collision occurred around 11:10 a.m., on March 25. Emergency crews responded to the scene just west of Palm Canyon Drive.

Officers say 65-year-old Carpentier was riding west on his motorcycle when he crossed into the eastbound lane, along a curve in the roadway. The motorcycle then struck the back of a pickup-truck that was towing a trailer.

Upon impact, Carpentier was ejected from the motorcycle onto the road. First responders arrived and pronounced Carpentier dead at the scene, due to the extent of his injuries.

Both directions of the roadway were temporarily closed to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

At this time, the deadly incident remains under active investigation. More information will updated once it is made available to the public.
