Sunday is National Coffee Day. Although here at Squid Ink, every day is coffee day. Seriously. This blog is powered by espresso.
With that in mind, we thought we'd bring you a compilation of our best coffee coverage -- all the studies, openings, cafés we adore and more, as well as a few events happening for National Coffee Day. Turn the page for all our caffeinated (in two senses of the word) coverage.
National Coffee Day Events
Get a free coffee machine: For the second year running, the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is holding a "trade up your coffee machine" event, wherein you can trade in any working model of electric coffee machine for new CBTL Americano Machine. Last year they gave away 2,500 machines, and this year they expect to give away more. The event takes place on Sunday in Orange County at the Angels Stadium of Anaheim from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. (or while supplies last). Gates open at 6 a.m. with free coffee. Why get there at 6 a.m.? Coz the first 250 people in line also get a free milk frother. How could this be smart for Coffee Bean you ask? How could giving away $300,000 worth of coffee equipment make sense for them? Well duh, because if you have one of their machines, you gotta buy the coffee pods to go in them.
Krispy Kreme is giving away free 12-oz. cups of coffee at participating shops (which looks like most of the shops in SoCal).
Starbucks is giving away tastes of its new medium-roast coffee blend, Ethiopia. Also, anyone who purchases a one-pound bag that day will receive a complimentary Ethiopian-inspired commemorative ceramic cup.
10 Great Coffeehouses
Here's a list of the 10 Best Coffee Shops in L.A. Yes, it's from a couple years back. But we still love these cafés and we think you will too.
New Cafés to Check Out

Before you go slurping all that free or new coffee, perhaps you should read up on what it might do to you? Here's a sampling of some of the recent scientific studies regarding coffee:
Withdrawal from coffee is maybe a mental illness and also coffee kills creativity (these are not really scientific at all, but rather people having opinions that are, in my opinion, dumb).
