Now Open: LYFE Kitchen in Culver City

LYFE (an acronym for Love Your Food Everyday) Kitchen opened in Downtown Culver City on Feb. 25, in the former Gyenari location. Featuring an eco, health, social and somewhat budget conscious dining concept, LYFE has two of McDonald's top executives, Michael Donahue and Mike Roberts, at the helm. (Editor's note: That line you've been seeing stretching around the block is for lunch, not concert tickets.)

Tonight is the restaurant's grand opening, bringing out Roberts, Culver City's mayor Andy Weissman, chefs Art Smith and Tal Ronen, two-time Super Bowl champion Troy Polamalu and Olympic Gold Medalist Janet Evans, among others.

When it came to the comprehensive menu of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, Smith and Ronnen were asked to come up with dishes that could satisfy the mission of approachable healthful food. Both men have cooked for Oprah Winfrey in their careers; Smith was on Bravo's Top Chef Masters and Ronnen's vegan cookbook The Conscious Cook is a New York Times bestseller. The pair have created a menu of sandwiches, salads, pasta, fish and flatbreads.

There are separate vegan and gluten-free menus available as well. One consistent element through all the menus is the transparency of nutritional information: Calories and sodium content are right next to prices. Every dish is under 600 calories and 1,000 milligrams of sodium. The letter 'n' is designated as an menu icon to indicate when nuts are present in a dish, helpful for those who are allergic.

The first restaurant opened in Palo Alto; the Culver City location is the second.
