Lucky Charms Sifter Makes Your Cereal Magically Delicious

We all do it: Take a box of Lucky Charms, pour the cereal into the bowl, hunt for the charms like you're scrounging for laundry quarters and leave behind the bland toasted oats. Like the perpetually frazzled woman of the infomercial, we exclaims, "There's got to be a better way!" Lo and behold, there is.

Using a 3D printer that creates three-dimensional objects by layering materials on top of each other, Thomas Lombardi made a Lucky Charms Cereal Sifter that separates the wheat from the chaff, or in this case, the oats from the sugar.

Lombardi, who designed the sifter with holes "sized to catch most charms," estimates that you ought to be able to catch more than 90% of the charms with his device. Use it as though you were panning for gold: Pour the cereal into the container, shake it from side to side and let it rain pink hearts, purple horseshoes, red balloons, blue half-moons, orange shooting stars, green leprechaun hats, yellow pots of gold and rainbows. Magically delicious, indeed.

Lombardi uploaded the sifter specs on Thingiverse, a website where savvy digital designers share their creations and inventions. Since he shared his sifter, another charmed user, John Boiles, adapted the sifter slightly for his particular printer and, fortunately for us, filmed the fascinating 3D printing process.
