Rescuers were searching the coast of Venice for a man, reportedly drunk, who jumped off the end of Venice Pier about 2:30 Monday morning.

The jumper was identified as 29-year-old Brian Patrick Dunn of West Hollywood. County lifeguards, with the help of a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and two Coast Guard boats, were searching for the man Monday as a strong south swell sent high surf into the SoCal coastline.

” … Dunn's car is still in the parking lot, so we know he's either in the water or on the beach somewhere,'' said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. George Kolumbic.

The man was said to be wearing a t-shirt and shorts when he jumped off the pier, which is at the foot of Washington Boulevard.

Surviving in cool Pacific water for so long without a wetsuit would be difficult. The big waves have helped create strong currents that will complicate the search.

“The currents could have pulled him northwest or out to sea,'' Kolumbic said.
