Requiem Ceremony for Slaughterhouse and Farm Animals

On Sunday, animal rights activists gathered at Santa Monica Beach for the 3rd Annual Animal Rights Day. New York and L.A. simultaneously held requiem ceremonies for deceased animals that were directly affected by inhuman treatment in slaughterhouses and farms. This is the first time that real animals have been honored in a public ceremony in the U.S., such ceremonies have been done in Europe, Australia and Israel. The event included the unveiling and reading of the Declaration of Animal Rights. After the ceremony, participants set up literature booths to inform the public about the inhuman conditions animals are subjected to as well as introduce people to a vegan lifestyle.
