You've seen repo men and women on reality television, and even though the scenarios sometimes seem set up, you get the picture: This is a dangerous job.

One L.A.-area repo man was murdered yesterday after he hooked up a car and drove away in his tow truck, only to be followed by people in “multiple vehicles,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

A shots fired call at Rosecrans and Atlantic avenues in Compton brought out the cops …

The driver had “lawfully repossessed a car in Compton and was possibly followed by others,” according to the sheriff's statement.

The man drove, repo'd car in-tow, to Firestone and Rayo avenues in Compton, where he “then collided into a car,” exited his truck and was shot, deputies said.

First responders took the 50-year-old to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's department.

A description of the shooter or any of those chase cars was not yet available. The victim's identity had yet to be released.
