Pleasing the eyes and pleasing the stomach are both noble pursuits. This weekend's Dwell on Design conference is a chance for modern design freaks and foodies to indulge themselves in discussion panels, exhibitions, displays, and other events that address these respective passions, as well as their overlap. Dwell Editor Sarah Rich explains how the heavy emphasis on food this year was inspired “by the 'Square Meal' column in the magazine that started last fall, also because I'm involved with the food world outside of Dwell.” The intersection of these two themes gives “a lot to be looked at… and that gradually grew into having a lot of Square Meal events,” which are co-curated by Rich and Evan Kleiman.

To recap: The AIA/LA Restaurant Design Awards are announced Friday evening (listen to Jonathan Gold opine on the subject during this week's Dinner Party Download). On Saturday night, there is a screening of the architecturally-focused Movie Night ($15 entrance), accompanied by a crew of mobile eateries (Tacos Ariza, Green Truck, Coolhaus, Sprinkles, et al.) at the Geffen MOCA. This kind of catering sounds much more dynamic than a bunch of waiters carrying around trays of canapés. Sunday is packed with Square Meal-themed programs to keep your appetite going and creative design juices flowing.

Most events and the main exhibition hall will be at the Convention Center, with home tours and other special events at other locations around Los Angeles. Passes and tickets are explained here. Follow DoD on Twitter.
