LA Family Housing  and DTLA  restaurant Redbird have teamed up to help their most vulnerable neighbors — the homeless community in Los Angeles — by providing more than 1300 boxed meals each day during the COVID-19 pandemic. This partnership will provide  well-balanced meals for individuals and families in interim and supportive housing. Over the next month, LAFH will distribute these meals daily to vulnerable families living in motels as well as to clients in several supportive housing buildings.

“The COVID-19 crisis is affecting our entire community, but has an acute impact on low-income families,” Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, President and CEO of LAFH said in a statement. “School closures, wage cuts due to quarantines, and unexpected childcare results in heightened food insecurity among families experiencing homelessness. We’re incredibly thankful to Redbird for helping us meet this critical need. In this time of crisis, this partnership highlights how we can work together and innovate to meet the pressing needs of our community’s most vulnerable.”

Donations made to LAFH help provide meals to individuals and families in interim and affordable housing, increase disease-prevention supplies for people living outdoors, equip outreach teams providing care with protective gear, create quarantine areas for sick individuals and secure motel rooms to help alleviate density in interim housing.

“In a time of crises, it’s great to be able to work and help your community,” Redbird owner and L.A. native Neal Fraser said in a statement. “We are grateful to be able to contribute and help LA Family Housing in a time of need. We are in the service and hospitality business. Most have been sidelined. I am thankful we are not and get to put some of our key managers to work beside us to do what we do.”
