48-Year-Old Driver Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision near Benton Street

MURRIETA, CA (August 17, 2021)Raymond Ayala, 48, of Hemet lost his life Thursday afternoon after a chain-reaction crash on Winchester Road.

The incident took place on Winchester Road near Benton Street around 2:20 p.m., on August 12.

For reasons unknown, the driver of a northbound Nissan Altima suddenly swerved into oncoming traffic. There, Ayala was driving a Chevrolet Camaro south on Winchester, following a Toyota Tacoma pickup.

Shortly after, the Nissan struck the Toyota and Chevrolet, causing the deadly chain-reaction collision.

Responding officers arrived and declared Ayala dead at the scene, due to the extent of injuries sustained.

Meanwhile, medics transported the Nissan driver with major injuries to a hospital for further treatment. Medics say the driver is still in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported. Meanwhile, officials ask anyone with information to call Murrieta police Investigator Kurt Stickelman at 951-461-6306.

At this time, an active investigation remains ongoing.
