A 26-year-old woman was killed and three men were wounded, one critically, at a rave in South El Monte early Saturday, according to authorities and the Pasadena Star-News.

According to the Star-News the dead woman was identified as Clara Myung Hee Chun, 26, of San Gabriel. Sheriff's officials said three men between the ages of 18 and 30 were also wounded when gunfire broke out at the party in an industrial complex in the 2300 block of Chico Avenue about 2:45 a.m.

Authorities said about 30 people were at the event and that a few — perhaps “several” — fights broke out before the shooting occurred. ABC7 reported that two men opened fire and “got away.”

Several people had been detained, according to sheriff's officials, and Chico Avenue remained closed Saturday afternoon as authorities investigated.

Leads, however, seemed elusive, and sheriff's authorities asked anyone who was at the event or who knew anything about the attack to call detectives at 323-890-5900.

It's been a rough summer for raves: In June Electric Daisy Carnival, which drew about 160,000 fans over two days to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, was the site of gatecrashing, drug arrests and more than 200 emergency medical responses.

But it was the death of a 15-year-old girl who attended that party and who might have taken ecstasy that put the events under the spotlight, with the county creating a rave task force to find ways to make the parties safer.

In Berlin last month the annual Love Parade ended in tragedy when 19 people were crushed and trampled.

And earlier this month federal authorities announced the bust of an area ecstasy ring. Inspired, in part, by the issues brought up by “EDC,” federal agents along with the Beverly Hills Police Department indicted 15 suspects, many from the San Gabriel Valley, and seized a claimed $17 million in ecstasy pills.
