Vehicle Accident near Halloran Springs Road Left One Man Dead

BAKER, CA (April 4, 2022) – Early Saturday morning,  39-year-old Raul Negrete Gontes died in a rollover crash on Interstate 15, police said.

The fatal accident took place on the northbound Interstate 15 near Halloran Springs Road around 3:08 a.m.

Per authorities, a 31-year-old male from Victorville was driving a 2019 Dodge Charger at high speeds in the first lane when he collided with the back of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The impact caused the Chevy to overturn and travel across the freeway’s center median.

Additionally, the Dodge crossed the median before coming to a rest along the roadway. Responding officers pronounced the Chevrolet driver, Gontes, dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, California Highway Patrol officials stated that the 31-year-old Dodge driver showed signs of intoxication. Moreover, officers later arrested the driver for DUI causing bodily harm.

In addition, an active investigation is underway, and Baker officials are asking anyone with information about the fatal collision to call 760-225-5900.
