Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 Kills One; Raul Jaime Arrested
MERCED CA (November 1, 2021) – Authorities arrested 21-year-old Raul Jaime after killing a person in a pedestrian crash on Highway 99.
The collision occurred on northbound Highway 99, north of Atwater Boulevard, about 2:00 a.m. on October 25.
According to the CHP, a 24-year-old driver thought he hit an object in the road before calling 911 when he realized he had hit a person on the highway.
Additionally, officers said the 52-year-old man had previously been struck by another car. Officers on the scene pronounced the man deceased on the spot.
In Livingston, officers found a broken license plate registered to a 2018 Toyota Camry.
CHP officers eventually arrested the owner, 21-year-old Raul Jaime on hit-and-run charges..
At this time, Merced police are still trying to figure out what caused the collision and looking for further evidence.
