The Los Angeles Rams’ newest wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. announced that his full salary with the team will be paid to him in Bitcoin.

Odell Beckham’s announcement came in partnership with Cash App, which offers crypto services and allows the sale and purchase of Bitcoin.

“It’s a NEW ERA & to kick that off I’m hyped to announce that I’m taking my new salary in bitcoin…” Beckham said on Twitter Monday.

This would not be Beckham’s first step into the crypto world, purchasing a Non Fungible Token of “CryptoPunk #3365” which he proudly displays in his Twitter profile picture. While it has not been revealed how much Beckham paid for the CryptoPunk, its former owner who went by the username “Soby.eth, who purchased it for 35.50 ethereum, which was roughly the equivalent of $146,000.

The star wide receiver was placed on waivers by the Cleveland Browns on November 8, becoming a free agent the next day.

On November 11, the Rams agreed to terms with Beckham, with a one-year, incentive-based contract believed to be worth up to $4.25 million, according to NFL.com.

In December 2020, it was announced that Carolina Panthers tackle Russell Okung became the first NFL player to receive part of their contract in Bitcoin.

Soonafter, other players around the league have accepted portions of their contracts in Bitcoin, including Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley and Jackson Jaguars’ rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The Los Angeles Rams are currently 7-3, good for 2nd place behind the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West division.
