Two-Vehicle Collision near Willow Avenue Kills Mother and Injures Two Children

HERCULES, CA (March 28, 2023) – Thursday evening, Ralph Ellsworth White III was arrested following a stolen vehicle crash along Interstate 80. Initially, a stolen 2021 Mazda SUV was reported around 7:27 p.m. heading toward Hercules on eastbound I-80. Afterward, police initiated a pursuit after one of the officers spotted the stolen Mazda exit the highway onto the northbound Willow Avenue. The fleeing suspect collided with a 2017 Nissan going south on Willow Avenue. Authorities managed to detain the suspect, 20-year-old Ralph Ellsworth White III of Vallejo, after he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old mother of twin boys driving the Nissan sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Her two 6-year-old boys were transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries. At this time, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office along with the Sheriff’s Office and CHP continues to investigate the incident.
