Woman Pronounced Dead after Fatal Pedestrian Accident near Holt Avenue

WEST COVINA, CA (July 11, 2022) – Early Tuesday morning, Rachel Vargas was killed in a pedestrian crash on 10 Freeway.

According to California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened around 12:41 a.m., near Holt Avenue.

For reasons unknown, a woman was walking along the slow eastbound lanes of the highway wearing dark clothing. There, the driver of a passing vehicle struck her.

Witnesses told officers that a woman was lying in front of a white pickup with a camper shell on the right shoulder of the freeway.

Due to the extent of her condition, responding officials declared the woman dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the deceased female pedestrian as 40-year-old Vargas, of Pomona.

At this time, West Covina Officials continue to investigate the deadly pedestrian accident.
