The Human Rights Campaign, the ultimate Washington D.C. lobbying group for gays and lesbians, has officially endorsed Senator Barack Obama for president.

The organization has always been tight with Senator Hillary Clinton, and Obama supporters have often wondered if the HRC leaned more towards the Clinton camp during the primary season, but no more.

Now we'll see if the rest of the gay community, which has had a special and somewhat odd relationship with Clinton when considering some of her positions and reasonings for the Defense of Marriage Act and “Don't Ask, Don't Tell,” will follow the Human Rights Campaign's lead.

Obama, by the way, has said he would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act–signed by President Bill Clinton into law–which still undercuts any marriage or civil union rights won in California or anywhere else. The Democratic presidential nominee is also against “Don't Ask, Don't Tell.”
