Did you know the Queen Mary was built in Scotland? Construction took place on the River Clyde by the John Brown & Company Shipbuilding and Engineering shipyard at Clydebank Scotland. Hence, it the logical site for the Scottish Festival . The fest features more varieties of highland dancing than Alaskans have for snow: Pas de Basques, Fling, Hornpipe, Sean Triubhas, Sword, Flora. And then there are several categories o f drumming, with competitions going on all weekend. A highlight is the Highland Athletic Competition with extreme-macho events like the Hammer throw and Putting the Stone. There's also a music component called Plaidapalooza and a performance by Men of Worth. You can enjoy Scottish food, Scottish crafts, men in kilts, Scotch tape — as that old Mike Myers character used to say, “If it's not Scotch, it's crap!”
