It doesn't matter what your pop culture obsession is, Comikaze will have something for you. The new convention launches this weekend with a host of events for comic book collectors, sci-fi fans, horror-movie nuts, gamers, even tattoo buffs. Comic book icon Stan Lee will be on hand as a guest of honor, as will Elvira (making what is billed as her final convention appearance), Ernest Borgnine, Tippi Hedren and many others. For those yearning to relive the 1990s, Comikaze is hosting a reunion of Nickelodeon's comedy show All That. The real selling point of Comikaze, though, is guest of honor Jhonen Vasquez. He's the creator of Invader ZIM, a short-lived sci-fi cartoon that had its first run on Nickelodeon in 2001-02 and has gone on to amass a large cult following of adults, teens and even kids who were born after it originally aired. Yes, he's the guy responsible for all the green-dog hoodies and ski caps you've been seeing at the mall lately. Vasquez doesn't make a ton of convention appearances, so take this chance to see the comic and cartoon creator up close. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 N. Figueroa St., dwntwn.; Sat., Nov. 5, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sun., Nov. 6, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; $12, $20 for a two-day pass, children under 12 free with paying adult (three-kid limit); comikazeexpo.com.
