SUNDAY, AUGUST 21

There’s got to be a joke here: At the Laugh Factory’s Hollywood Cares Day, you give blood while comics perform onstage (we’re thinking about a “little prick” or “I laughed till I clotted!”). We promise it won’t hurt a bit. Every donor gets free Laugh Factory tickets, a goodie bag, food and a raffle ticket for pricey prizes. 8001 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood; Sun., Aug. 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Reservations recommended: Call Katherine at (323) 656-1336, Ext. 203.

New York City kids have be-bopped and shoobeed to Hayes Greenfield’s Jazz-A-Ma-Tazz since 1997. Now, the saxophonist and bandleader makes his L.A. debut with a program to spark little ones’ interest in scatting, singing and call-and-response in a fun way. “When I get done with them,” Greenfield promises, “they leave chanting, singing and knowing that jazz is not old-fogey music.” Greystone Mansion and Park, 905 Loma Vista Dr., Beverly Hills; Sun., Aug. 21, 10 a.m.; $8; reservations required. Info: (310) 550-4796. Tickets: (310) 550-4753.

MONDAY, AUGUST 22

Speaking of old-fogey music, what picnic fare goes with James Taylor? Sweet baby potato salad? Taylor has a voice so soothing it can make you forget your car is stacked parked. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave.; Mon., Aug. 22, 7:30 p.m.; $19-$158.50. (323) 850-2000.

Have you ever seen a 30,000-pound aircraft craned onto a 35-foot-high outdoor colonnade? Well, today’s your big chance. Surely someone out there thinks this sounds like fun. Head to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, where the Peace Plaza is the site of the installation of an F-14 Tomcat. The ceremony will be attended by war people, including Rear Admiral David Venlot, who shot down two Libyan planes in 1981 from such a plane. 40 Presidential Dr., Simi Valley; Mon., Aug. 22, 10 a.m.; free. (800) 410-8354.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 23

If it’s Tuesday, it must be free movies under the stars: At CityWalk,
it’s E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, about a cute little alien with a funny
walk. On the Santa Monica Pier, it’s Zoolander, about a vain little
man with a funny walk. In either case, BYO chair and tons of cash for parking.
Both at 8 p.m. Free Films at the Pier: www.smff.com.
CityWalk: (818) 622-1111 or citywalkhollywood.com.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24

Through an organization called Laughlinks, inner-city kids are given the opportunity to take a six-week workshop on standup comedy and perform in front of a live audience. At Comic Community, your ticket helps support this worthy cause — so worthy we’re not even going to joke about it. Penny Marshall will be there, and also performing will be the genius – yes, genius! — comic Zach Galifianakis, whose name is only spelled correctly in this paper. Hollywood Improv, 8162 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood; Wed., Aug. 24, 8 p.m.; $20.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 25

Shall we Bach? A living legend of modern dance for half a century, Paul Taylor choreographs to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in an all-JSB program of soaring sonatas, languorous leaps and contrapuntal can-cans when the Paul Taylor Dance Company meets the L.A. Philharmonic. And let’s be happy the Bowl added the giant screens. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood.; Thurs., Aug. 25, 8 p.m.; $42-$6. (323) 850-2000.

(And sorry, Super Freakheads, the Rick James Tribute at Gibson Amphitheater
has been postponed.)
