Another protest of the massive Bundy Village development in West L.A. we've been telling you about is planned for Tuesday afternoon/early evening. The demonstration comes as the city Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the project Thursday.

Organizers say they're protesting the developer's refusal to meet with a committee set up by Westside city Councilman Bill Rosendahl that is tasked with looking at reducing the size and scope of the project. The mixed-use development, including 385-units, retail space and medical facilities, is projected to add 21,000 extra car trips a day to the neighborhood.

“For a second time in 30 days, Westside community leaders and businesses plan to march in protest of a massive West Los Angeles development proposed for a site at Bundy Drive and Olympic Boulevard,” organizers state. “Representatives residing in West Los Angeles, Brentwood, Mar Vista, Westwood and Santa Monica will be out in force to reject the proposed 1 Million square foot project which residents say will add an unprecedented amount of gridlock to the already traffic choked streets.”

Rosendahl originally supported the project but then changed his tune following the first protest in February. He has since told the Weekly that the developer is “going to have to go back to the drawing board” and cut back “dramatically” on the project's size.

A committee of concerned community members Rosendahl put together states that developer Michael Lombardi has refused to meet with it, however. Lombardi says he has not refused to meet with area stakeholders, but he did not deny refusing to meet specifically with Rosendahl's committee.

Opponents say that even if the Planning Commission approves the project, the City Council will have to bend the rules to allow it to move forward: “If approved at that hearing, the City Council would need to override the project's significant environmental impacts on West Los Angeles residents, as defined by the California Environmental Quality Act, in order for the development to proceed,” protest organizers state.

The protest happens at 5 p.m. Tuesday at West Olympic Boulevard and Bundy Drive, the site of the proposed development.
