It's comforting to know that even as the campaign to legalize marijuana in California seems to be struggling in the polls (or not), the backers of November's Prop. 19 are still getting higher when it comes to raising cash.

According to Associated Press, the proposition's main supporters have raised more than $316,000 since April 1 and have $162,000 cash left to spend. Opponents, on the other hand, are burning their budget down to a roach:

They raised about $41,000 and have $19,000 left to spend. But while the money might be burning out, the movement against Prop. 19 still seems strong enough to harsh the mellow of this pro-marijuana pipe dream.

The initiative would legalize the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana for those 21 and older.

At this point, neither camp really has real (Meg Whitman) money to run a statewide television campaign of any significant strength.
