Back in June, Anheuser-Busch announced “Project 12”, described thusly: “Twelve Anheuser-Busch brewmasters at Budweiser's 12 geographically dispersed breweries worked together to create their own “tribute” beers to fit the Budweiser brand's reputation for quality and consistency.” The idea was that over the course of the summer, each beer would be tested by the public and narrowed first to six beers and then three that would be released in limited quantity. The beers are to be named for the ZIP codes in which they were created.

Yesterday, Budweiser announced the three winners, and GUESS WHAT YOU GUYS, L.A. WON!! OK, calm down, I know you're excited. One of the three beers is a deep amber larger named Batch No. 91406 and brewed by L.A. brewmaster Bryan Sullivan. (Why they didn't stretch the truth and name it Batch No. 90210 is a mystery Budweiser's marketing department will be crying over for decades.) “Our collaboration team used caramel malt on Batch No. 91406, which gives the beer a deep amber color and a little more body,” said Sullivan. “It has a little bit more hop character than our flagship Budweiser lager, but like Budweiser it's a very clean and refreshing beer.”

Oh, yay. Like Budweiser but different.

Sullivan's deep amber larger will be available next month as a six-pack along with the other two winners — a deep golden pilsner from St. Louis and a bourbon cask larger from Williamsburg, V.A.
