Update- Friday, 9:50 a.m. PST: The morning after Donald Trump’s COVID-19 announcement, Democratic nominee Joe Biden announced that he and his wife tested negative for COVID-19. Biden also wished the Trump family a “swift recovery.”

“Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery,” Biden said in a tweet Friday morning. “We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family.”

Biden followed the tweet with, ” … I hope this serves as a reminder: wear a mask, keep social distance, and wash your hands.”

Update- Friday, 6 a.m. PST: Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence have both tested negative for COVID-19, as of 4:52 a.m. PST.

“As has been routine for months, Vice President Pence is tested for COVID-19 every day. This morning, Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative for COVID-19,” Vice President press secretary Devin O’Malley said in a tweet Friday. “Vice President Pence remains in good health and wishes the Trumps well in their recovery.”

President Donald Trump confirmed through Twitter that both he and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” Trump said. “We will get through this TOGETHER!”

The White House physician released a statement saying the First Couple were recovering at the White House and the president would “continue carrying out his duties without disruption.” The statement also noted that the president and first lady were “both well” at the time of writing.

The president first went into quarantine Thursday after finding out that one of his aides, Hope Hicks had tested positive. Hicks traveled and came into close contact with the president and reportedly began feeling COVID-19 symptoms.

“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19,” Trump Tweeted early Thursday. “The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”

After Trump had announced that he and the first lady had taken the test, the results were returned same day.

In response to the positive tests, Melania Trump said, “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19.”

The first lady added that they are both “feeling good” and she has confirmed postponing her prior commitments.

The CDC recommended quarantine period is at least two weeks. The president had planned a trip to Los Angeles and Orange County for an Oct. 6 fundraiser.planned a trip to Los Angeles and Orange County for an Oct. 6 fundraiser. The status of his prior commitment have not been addressed as of this writing.

As of Thursday, there have been 7.3 million cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 208,000 deaths. Los Angeles County has reported 271,371 of those positive cases, with 6,610 deaths and 746 current hospitalizations.

Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti sent well wishes to the First Couple and noted, “No one is immune. We must all continue to wear our masks, maintain physical distance and keep one another safe.”
