A little LA Weekly rewind by Moses Sumney

The multi-talented singer-songwriter Moses Sumney once wrote about John Mayer’s begrudging fandom. As a writer for LA Weekly in 2012, Sumney wrote about Mayer in the Guilty Pleasures column, noting Mayer’s public persona and saccharine songs make him an easy target for popular disdain. But Sumney says the music more than makes up for it, ultimately applauding Mayer’s large body of excellent work, summarizing, “If you must, hate the playa, but don’t hate what he’s playing.”
