Los Angeles rockers Aeges have weathered some lineup changes since their impressive 2012 debut The Bridge. But the band’s approach to melodic hard rock remains quite powerful on their upcoming sophomore album Above & Down Below, which drops on September 23.

Band member credits prior to Aeges range from the Juliette Lewis-fronted hard rock act Juliette & The Licks to depressive sludge-hardcore greats 16. Despite – or perhaps because of – their varied backgrounds, the group’s output ends up being a cohesive trip down paths paved with desert-rock hooks reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age and thick bass line grooves ripped from the playbook of L.A. post-hardcore greats Failure.

New members Cory Clark (guitarist/vocalist) and Mike Land (drummer) join founding members Kemble Walters (vocals/guitars) and Tony Baumeister (bass) in concocting the mesmerizingly infectious brew contained on Above & Down Below. Today, West Coast Sound premieres the album’s leadoff track. “Echoes” does an excellent job setting up the riffage that lies ahead, and is a tightly packed beast in its own right.
