Truly random acts of violence are rare, but they do happen in this big city.

Take the case of a pregnant woman walking down the street in the Charter Oak area of unincorporated Covina yesterday: A man approached from behind, took her to the ground and — get this — started kicking, according to cops.

It's possible he didn't know she was with-child, though:

When she yelled that she was pregnant the man fled, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

It happened at 8 a.m. Sunday near Cienega Treanor avenues, according to an LASD statement. It adds:

There is no known motive for this assault.

The winner was described as a Latino in his mid-20s measuring about 5 feet, 7 inches and weighing as much as 170 pounds, according to the department. He was sporting a shaved head and wearing a black sweatshirt and sunglasses.
