A woman who was 7-months pregnant took several rounds of gunfire in a South El Monte driveway last night, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department says.

The woman was rushed to a hospital and her baby was “successfully delivered and in fair condition,” sheriff's deputies said in a statement.

The attack was reported at 10:06 p.m. Tuesday in the 1900 Block of Merced Avenue, the sheriff's department stated:


The adult victim, who was 7 months pregnant, was in the driveway of the location when unknown suspect(s) approached and fired several rounds at the victim. The adult victim was struck multiple times.

It was later revealed that the victim, described as a woman in her 20s, was sitting in a vehicle when she was shot.

Lt. William Wicker of the sheriff's department told City News Service it was possible the woman was followed home before the attack.

The shooter fled in a dark sedan, deputies said.
