Montreal artists Claudia Ficca and Davide Luciano, known for their eponymous series of works on potholes in their hometown and in New York are in Los Angeles this month to continue their good work.

The duo won't have to look far. As we reported Thursday, Los Angeles has the worst roads in the nation, according to a study released this week. Along with traffic and other conditions, the poor road-going experience here costs the average L.A. driver nearly $2,500 a year. Talk about your hidden taxes.

While Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who once trumpeted his pothole-filling efforts, is living it up this week in Europe, Ficca and Luciano will be making somewhat a mockery of his city's streets.

Some of L.A's potholes deserve their own zip codes. We know potholes happen, but they seem to be particularly bad this year, providing ample fodder for Ficca and Luciano unique displays.

A study by the nonprofit transportation group TRIP found that Highland Avenue from Santa Monica Boulevard to Franklin Avenue in Hollywood, Santa Monica Boulevard between Centinela Avenue and the San Diego (405) Freeway in West L.A., and Venice Boulevard between Lincoln and Sawtelle boulevards in Venice and Mar Vista were some of the bumpiest rides this side of Mayor V's tenure as the city's leader.
