The L.A. Times reports that federal and local law enforcement agencies raided a pair of Westside medical marijuana pharmacies today, along with the homes of their owners. In one of the raids a pit bull was shot although, according to the Times report, it is expected to fully recover. It's unclear whether the dog was shot in a dispensary or at its owner's home. The raids hit the Organica Collective at 13456 Washington Boulevard, Culver City and Overland Gardens at 2452 Overland Avenue, West L.A. According to a 2008 LAist post, Organica was raided almost exactly one year ago.

City News Service and others report that the participating agencies included the Department of Drug Enforcement, the FBI and IRS, along with the state attorney general's office, the police forces of Culver City, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Torrance, as well as the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

It had widely been expected that pot dispensary raids would cease with

the inauguration of Barack Obama who, during his presidential campaign,

stated his unwillingness to target marijuana users as part of any war

on drugs. California officials have seemed split on the issue, with

LAPD Chief Bill Bratton and state attorney general Jerry Brown

expressing concerns about the proliferation of pot pharmacies, which

have increasingly drawn community complaints about their attracting

crime. Last week three armed men robbed a Canoga Park dispensary of

cash and marijuana.
