While many of us will be toasting to 2010 with champagne, party-goers at one event in Riverside will ring in the New Year with a bong. Medical marijuana patients of a Riverside clinic have been invited to a bring-your-own-pot party. And it's alcohol-free.

Organizer Lanny Swerdlow tells KNX 1070 Newsradio that he believes his party will be safer than events that serve alcohol. He says he's expecting as many as 60 people to attend. But no crashers will be allowed. People have to have a prescription to toke.

Paul Chabot of the 150-member Inland Valley Drug Free Community Coalition told the radio station he is “shocked at the audacity” of the party hosts and that the sole purpose of the event “is to promote drug usage.”

Riverside police stated that they would be keeping an eye on the event.
