Bonnie Oda Homsey

Homsey and her American Repertory Dance Company are making sure the present and future of modern dance reflect the wholeness of its past by reconstructing and performing important works (especially solos) of great artists — Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Mary Wigman, Michio Ito, Charles Weidman, Doris Humphrey and others. Homsey's archaeological digs into modern dance's past are uncovering valuable material that few have had the audacity, perseverence and professional skill to expose. She's a pioneer. Beck

If Woody Guthrie had started up a sonic gardening service with Jacques Tati, Grandmaster Flash and Leonard Cohen, their collective seeds and soils might've yielded hybrids similar to Beck's peppery-lime hydroponic pomegranate weeds. As such, Beck recommends listening to his recently released Mutations from within an evening's warm, slow bath. (Dave Shulman)
