The adult video industry's trade group, the Free Speech Coalition, today called for a voluntary halt to production after a performer initially came up HIV-positive following an STD test, the organization said.

The group said in a statement that the test result at this point only indicated a “possible” HIV infection:

The test has not yet been confirmed, and we will know if it is a true positive or false positive in the next day.

If the result turns out to be a false positive, the FSC will call on production to resume, it said. The group's suggestions for production shutdowns following STD scares are usually obeyed by the major adult studios, most of which are based in L.A.

The industry has a voluntary, twice-a-month testing protocol for performers. Most major studios won't shoot unless a performer has a recent and clean test.

“Out of an abundance of precaution,” the coalition said, “we will be retesting anyone who might have had contact with the performer within the testing window, and asking that producers stop filming until we know more.”

The industry has been fighting against mandatory condom rules enacted in the city and county of Los Angeles.

The Hollywood-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation is also working on a statewide initiatives that would ask voters to approve mandatory condoms for adult performers all across California.
