The adult video industry trade group known as the Free Speech Coalition tonight said that a performer who might have come down with HIV was the subject of a false-positive test.

The organization says that “first generation performers” who ostensibly worked with the star have also tested negative. As such, the FSC stated that a voluntary moratorium on production has been lifted.

The coalition on Thursday had asked the industry to shut down production while the HIV report was investigated thoroughly:

The L.A.-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which has been trying to get the industry to adhere to mandatory condom use, used the occasion to chastise the porn business.

” … How many more infections will it take before the industry will follow the law on condom use …?” said AHF president Michael Weinstein.

The industry won a huge battle last week when a bill that would have required condom use for performers on sets throughout California was killed in the state Senate Appropriations Committee. Condoms for porn are mandatory in L.A. County following a voter-approved initiative.

The AHF also argues that federal law that seeks to protect employees from blood-borne pathogens at the workplace also requires condom use for adult video performers.

Today the Free Speech Coalition stated this week's episode proves that the industry's twice-a-month testing for performers works:

The moratorium and testing system has enabled us to prevent any transmission of HIV on an adult film set for over ten years. While opponents of the industry often use our periodic moratoriums as evidence that adult sets are not safe, quite the opposite is true. Moratoriums have and continue to enable us to prevent HIV from being transmitted between adult performers.

The industry, which has threatened to leave California over mandatory condoms, shut down production multiple times last year after performers tested positive for HIV.

Industry blogger Mike South (NSFW link) said the performer who turned up with false-positive lab results this week gave a radio interview recently in which she talked about having flu-like symptoms while working on a set.
