Update: You know it was only a matter of time before our friends at Next Media Animation would come up with their own Taiwanese-animation take on this story. Video after the jump.

You think porn is controversial in L.A. lately what with all the debate over mandatory condoms and the leak of porn stars' health records?

Try China, where porn is verboten. In fact, thousands if not more Chinese are planning to make the trip to Hong Kong just to take a peek at the hottest adult action to hit Asia since the Kama Sutra. (Warning: Not-so-safe-for-work trailer after the jump).

In fact, UK's Independent newspaper is billing Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy as …

… “the world's first major three-dimensional pornograhic movie.”

The film's producer, Stephen Shiu, told reporters:

It will leave audiences feeling like they are sitting right there at the edge of the bed.

Whew. Usually, when we watch porn in America, we are at the edge of the bed, remote-control in-hand.

But this one is rolling out in theaters, complete with sure-to-be steamed-up 3D glasses.

But China aint' having it. So Chinese porn fans will have to head to Hong Kong and Taiwan to enjoy.

That happened when Ang Lee's erotic thriller Lust, Caution was allowed in China, but only with key scenes cut. Confused audiences left the mainland to figure out what they were missing.

The makers of Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy are hoping for the same action during the May Day holiday.

We'd love to see it here in the porn capital of America. But we're not going to the few porn theaters still left open to do so. No, we'll wait for it to end up on Cinemax.
