We feel a little sorry for the L.A.-based porn industry these days.

Free smut via file sharing and so-called “porn tube” sites are hitting its bottom line, and not in the good way. The city of L.A. has now made it a requirement that performers use condoms when they're on location. And presidential candidate Rick Santorum pretty much wants to obliterate the business.

Aw. America will kiss the boo-boo and make it better, though, adult-video biz:

According to an MSNBC poll (at the bottom) that asks, “Do we need tougher enforcement of laws regulating hardcore porn?” nearly 74 percent of you said no.

In your face, Santorum. Or, er, let us rephrase that.

You see, the former senator and notorious homophobe has vowed to crack down on L.A.'s second-favorite film industry should be become president because …

America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography … Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.

This has inspired adult video titans such as Hustler's Larry Flynt to declare the likes of Santorum a filthy mix of fecal matter and lube, or something like that:

You have guys like Santorum come along and they bring out the bogeyman every chance they get. You will be hard-pressed to find anyone that can point out to you a study that shows harm is caused to anyone exposed to porn material.

Anyway, MSNBC's poll shows America loves porn way more than sweater vests. Only 21.4 percent of you agreed with Santorum by saying that tougher, anti-porn legislation is needed.

Of course the online survey is opt-in and thus unscientific.

But we think it really is saying something about the scourge of Santorum. It needs to be wiped.
