The AIDS Healthcare Foundation will turn in signatures tomorrow in its bid to put mandatory condom use for the area porn industry before L.A. county voters, AHF chief Michael Weinstein told the Weekly.

The group has more than 300,000 signatures, more than 30 boxes worth, that it will haul to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office in Norwalk Friday morning, said another AHF official.

That means …

… that you will likely be voting on the matter in November, because the group only needs about 232,153 valid, registered voters to sign on: The Registrar-Recorder still needs to validate the signatures and approve the measure for ballot placement.

AHF already pressured the city of L.A. to impose a condom-mandatory rule on adult video location shoots in the city after it got a similar measure approved for the city ballot.

The L.A. City Council stepped in and, rather than spend the money to let you vote on this, approved the idea itself, though it has yet to figure out how to enforce the rule.

An AHF rep tells us that the group will not lobby for a cash contract that would have it inspect film sets — something that porn industry gossip mongers accuse it of doing.

Meanwhile, as the ball moves to L.A. County, which has a huge health department, it'll be interesting to see it deals with this.
