Yet another case of HIV in the adult video industry has been reported, Michael Weinstein of the L.A.-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation told LA Weekly today. The patient, said to be male, would be the fourth porn star to turn up positive in the last three weeks.

The man came forward to reveal his status to the organization, Weinstein said. “We were approached by the performer,” he said.

It has been reported that a third case, that of a woman, was not connected related to the outbreak's apparent first patient, Cameron Bay. The second patient was her boyfriend, Rod Daily.

Asked if this fourth positive could be connected to Bay, Weinstein said he didn't know, but he did say that he believed “Cameron Bay worked with HIV during a period of time when she was most infectious.”

Asked about the reported fourth positive, an official with the industry trade group known as the Free Speech Coalition told the Weekly, “I have no confirmation as of now.”

A voluntary industry shut-down was ordered from Aug. 21 to 27 by the Coalition. The so-called moratorium was re-instated Friday after the third porn star turned up positive.

Those who performed with Bay in the weeks before she realized she was positive were tested and cleared, the FSC said.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation spearheaded a successful voter initiative that makes condoms mandatory for porn shoots in most of L.A. county.

However, the industry has resisted the rule, saying consumers won't buy condom porn and that it's monthly testing protocols for performers work.

Weinstein today called on L.A. county authorities to act.

“It's like a slow-motion car wreck,” he said. “The county took a stand against regulating this industry. They took a stand saying it's not that big of a problem. I think they should be held accountable for what has taken place.”

We asked L.A. County Department of Public Health Allen Solomon for his reaction but had yet to hear back from him.

[Added at 3:28 p.m.]: The Department of Public Health sent us this statement:

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has not received a report of an HIV case. Because of medical confidentiality and privacy, Public Health will not comment on the details of individual cases or their contacts.

The FSC's worker health arm, Performer Availability Screening Services, posted this notice on the PASS' site today:

The industry moratorium is still in effect. All performers have been marked as expired on the PASS database until further notice.

All first generation partners of the recently identified HIV positive performer have been notified and retests are being conducted. We will update the site daily as more information becomes available.
